My Story: How I Got Involved with the Massage Business for 25 Years

In the early 1990s, I worked in the Philippine Congress, filled with the hustle and bustle of politics and power. Yet, in 1992, my life took a transformative turn when I encountered Jesus and surrendered my life to Him. It was a moment that ignited a passionate flame within me, leading me to resign from Congress in 1993, guided by the gentle whisper of the Holy Spirit.

With a heart full of hope, I devoted myself to volunteering in an orphanage in Marikina. For five long years, I embraced the role of houseparent, caring for some of Manila’s most vulnerable children—abandoned and abused street kids who had lost their way in the world. In those early days, I struggled to connect with them; my singleness and lack of parenting experience felt like insurmountable barriers. I often found myself questioning whether I could truly make a difference.

But it was during this challenging time that God taught me the profound power of prayer. I began understanding how to reach these children through His goodness and overflowing grace. I introduced them to a simple yet powerful ritual: peer back massages before bed. What started as a humble act of kindness blossomed into a sacred practice, fostering camaraderie and a deep sense of belonging among us. As we shared those moments of healing touch, my wards transformed. They became more manageable, and, most importantly, we forged an unbreakable bond of mutual respect and love.

Reflecting on this journey, I am reminded of the verse from 1 Peter 4:10 (NASB): “As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” My experience in that small orphanage became the foundation for my life’s work.

After my time there, I transitioned to the Department of Health, but the call to create a nurturing space through touch never left me.

Eventually, I took a leap of faith and started my massage school business. Over the past 25 years, I have guided thousands of massage students on their journey to becoming licensed massage therapists, which has been significant. Each carries a unique story and experience that has shaped their path. Forward the legacy of healing that began in that orphanage many years ago. What started as a struggle has blossomed into a life dedicated to the healing power of touch, reminding us all that love, compassion, and connection can genuinely change lives.
